Obviously, fillet of beef is an expensive cut of meat. However, if you ask your butcher for the “tail” this is the part they usually find hard to sell so it can be a lot cheaper than the rest of the fillet.
Sesame Beef Stir Fry
Serves: 2 adults or 4 children
Ingredients
- 160g beef fillet
- 150g cooked noodles (you can buy pre-cooked noodles)
- 1 garlic clove, finely chopped or pasted
- 1-2 cm ginger, finely chopped
- 1 chilli, finely chopped or sliced (optional and can be later added for a more adult meal)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce (or Tamari if you need this to be gluten-free)
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp honey
- ½ red pepper, finely chopped
- 1 inch cucumber, finely chopped
- 30g approx. frozen peas
- 2 spring onions, sliced
Instructions
- Cut your beef into strips and place in a bowl.
- Pour over the soy sauce, sesame oil and honey.
- Then add the sesame seeds, garlic and ginger.
- Mix all together and leave to marinate for up to 10 minutes.
- Heat a little butter in a pan and when hot stir fry the beef. If it's cut into thin strips it won't take long to cook the beef, just 2-3 minutes. Try not to overcrowd the pan as it can cause the meat to sweat and you won't be able to get any good colour onto it.
- When cooked, place the beef into a bowl but using the same pan (don't clean) add your cooked noodles and warm through. Then add the red peppers, frozen peas and cucumber and heat through quickly.
- Add the beef back in, mix all together and serve.
Notes
For a more grown up version, add the spring onions and chilli.

Beef stir-fry has to be one of my favourite dishes… This was great because it was so quick to make – and seriously good!
